The modern Lucia celebration started when Stockholms Daily paper in 1927 arranged the first public Lucia procession. The new custom spread it self very fast over the country, often thru the local press initiative. Even to the Swedish parts of Finland was the tradition since long time already had been introduced in among others in schools. The Lucia celebrations fast spreading can be combined with a tendency to increasing Christmas celebrations at places of employment, in schools, in alms homes, in clubs and so on. There was Lucia useful with elements in the time like, show, beutycontest and charity. The usual Lucia Song got its first lyrics around the change of the century and it were written by Sigrid Elmblad (1860 - 1926) with the music from Teodoro Cottraus (1827-79) Barcarola napolitana" ("Sul mare lucica...").
